Movie Review: Mamma Mia: Here we go again

The movie of the summer. Caution: will make you want to travel and have one night stands.

Much slicker than the first film and the singing has vastly improved. Lilly James shines as the young Donna Sheridan trying to find herself in a Paris and Greece, she emulates Donna’s mannerisms from the first film to a T – of course, adding her own flirty twist.

Meanwhile Sophie played by the lovely Amanda Seyfried is setting up a new hotel and starts to feel more connected to her mother than ever and finding her path in life.

This film just was pure escapism. Whilst I’m not giving away the plot, get ready for a bloody big bombshell which had me sobbing like a baby.

Thankfully, Christine Barsarki and Julie Walters provide some levity to the film. My favourite lines are from Tanya: be still my beating vagina/ have him washed him brought to my tent. Of course their younger selves played by Jessica Keenan Wynn and Alexa Davis were like carbon copies and absolutely fab

Of course, the new additions of Josh Dylan (Young Bill), Jeremy Irivine (young Sam) and Hugh skinner (young Harry) are the perfect additions to a solid cast alongside Pierce Brosnan, Colin Firth and Stellan Starsgard (who thankfully have kept their vocals to a minimum)

Yes, this film will make you want to go hug your mother.

The songs were the perfect partners to the plot and I have some new favourites, such as Chers Fernando

Best musical of 2018 when all is said and done. It’s a rollercoaster of self discovery, first loves, grief, heartbreak and healing.
