Book Review: American Royals by Katherine McGee

Genre: Teen/ YA

Rating: 5/5

Plot:

Crazy Rich Asians meets The Crown in this completely addictive modern-day royal romance.

The Washingtons have ruled America for almost 250 years.

They’re gorgeous, fiercely famous and the beating heart of the most glorious royal court in the world.

But behind the glittering ballrooms, elegant gowns, and seemingly perfect public personas lie forbidden romances and scandalous secrets. Together four young women will navigate gossip, drama, and the eyes of the world upon them.

There’s everything to play for – but there can only be one queen.

This is the story of the most famous family in the world.

This is the story of the American royals.

My verdict: A funny and heartwarming novel regarding if America had a royal family. Fans of Kiera Class selection series, The Crown, Crazy Rich Asians and The Princess Diaries will love this romantic Drama ultimately about following your duty or following you heart. McGee’s characters jump off the page especially the royals who have every luxury imaginable and whilst the reader envy’s them they also see the constraints that are put on them because of their titles and public image. Aside from that the book deals with the Wealth and class divide between Nina and Prince Jeff and how the media and public scruntity puts a strain on their relationship. We also have forbidden relationship between Princess Beatrice and her security guard Conner. The book also deals with Princess Samantha’s feelings of coming in second place to her sister who will be the next queen. We also see Samantha mature into a level headed royal instead of a selfish party girl. The book also deals with family crisis as well as gold diggers who keep trying to sink her claws into Prince Jeff and will stop at nothing to get him.

We also see Beatrice deal with her perfectionism and not wanting to disappoint her parents and her public. A novel about love, friendship, and duty. McGee writes with such vivid descriptions and detailed characters that you feel your in court alongside the royals and their friends and how being in the spotlight complicates things.
